Limited Edition Peter Rabbit Game celebrates 150 years of Beatrix Potter

Peter Rabbit game

It's 150 years since Beatrix Potter was born. The artist and storyteller from west London who spent many years in her much-loved Lake District has been celebrated this year in numerous ways - from a special Royal Mint Peter Rabbit collection, through to exhibitions in the Lake District and at National Trust properties around the country.

Potter is most famous for her tale of Peter Rabbit, the naughty fellow who dared to enter Mr McGregor’s vegetable patch - the very same one that ended the life of his father and found him in one of Mrs McGregor’s pies. Brutal. Kids’ stories were rather more, erm, honest, back in the day. You can’t imagine Daddy Pig having an unfortunate accident with the farmer, or Mummy Pig explaining where Peppa’s cousins ‘disappeared to’ (phew).

Little Peter Rabbit was, however, a lucky chap. Aside from losing his shoes and his coat, he managed to get away from Mr McGregor numerous times and live the happy-go-lucky life of a rabbit, although never behaving as well as his three sisters.

Over the years a multitude of books and new characters - including the much loved Jemima Puddleduck - were added to the Peter Rabbit franchise. In fact, Beatrix herself launched her own empire and was a savvy marketer. As early as 1902 she realised the potential of merchandising and patented a Peter Rabbit doll, followed by others, including the original Peter Rabbit board game.

Now, well over 100 years later, British children's book and toy manufacturer and publisher Milly & Flynn have launched a new version of the classic Peter Rabbit’s Race Game, to celebrate the 150 year anniversary of Potter’s birth. With a limited edition run of just 2,000 launching later this month, the game is perfect for collectors - or for giving as beautiful commemorative gifts. The beautiful board game features illustrations of the much-loved author’s original characters, as used in the 1917 game, as well as four crafted pewter figures and a vintage dice. The box itself is wrapped in a gorgeous linen effect and is as ideal for nostalgic grandparents as it is for children.
