Follow our simple guide and and you’ll soon have lots of lovely nourishing compost for your garden:
Find a container – a kitchen bin is good – and drill holes in the bottom and the lid.
Line the bottom with fine nylon mesh on the inside to stop worms escaping, then fill the bin with a mixture off top soil, shredded cardboard, grass, leaves and straw.
Add the worms, which you can buy from garden centres. To feed the worms, make a shallow hole in the bedding and place chopped kitchen scraps at the bottom (favourites include banana skin, egg shell, vegetable peelings, tea bags and bread crusts).
When the bin is full, lift out the top wormy layers and tip the good compost out of the bottom of the bin, ready to put on your garden.
