Collector’s classic: The Casalino Jr

Alexander Begge's Casalino chair is making a comeback thanks to the Dutch manufacturer Casala

The Casalino 2007 chair

The Polish designer Alexander Begge designed just one furniture line which included the Casalino chair and it had all but disappeared from view. But it is now back in production after the Dutch manufacturer Casala unearthed the original moulds in a depot in Greece and shipped them back to Holland. The result is the Casalino 2007 – not a remake, but a straight up original that is just as beautiful as it was when first produced in 1970. It’s made from scratch-resistant, super-strong plastic that is anti-static and water-resistant. The Casalino Jr comes in red, white, green, black or tan (the plastic is 100 per cent dye-through rather than just surface dyed), and the edges are rounded – providing greater safety. There are two sizes: one for toddlers and one for older children. Prices start from £149.
